12 May Show Me (Phil 2:5) by Pastor Rick Foreman
“Let this same attitude and purpose and humble mind be in you which was in Christ Jesus: Let Him be your example in humility.” ~ Phil 2:5 (full readings)
Rick’s Reflections: St. Francis of Assisi stated, “It is no use walking anywhere to preach unless our walking is our preaching.” As Christ followers, walking the talk, as Jesus did with a spirit of humility that fuels being “other minded” is a message of hope for the world today. An old poem by an unknown author sums up the importance of not simply “living” the message but “being” the message:
I’d rather see a sermon, than hear one any day.
I’d rather you would walk with me, than merely show the way.
The eye is a better pupil, and more willing than the ear.
Fine counsel is confusing, but example is always clear.
And best of all the preachers, are men who live their creeds.
For to see good put in action is what everybody needs.
I soon can learn to do it, if you’ll let me see it done.
I can see your hands in action, but your tongue too fast may run.
And the lectures you deliver may be very fine and true.
But I’d rather get my lesson observing what you do.
For I may understand you and the high advice you give.
But there is no misunderstanding how you act and how to live.

Faith Challenge: Be intentional with your walk and message for the next month. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal the areas that need to be stripped away. Spend focused time in prayer for others and not yourself and then look to meet the needs of others. Isn’t that the message of Life Runners? Serving others as Christ sacrificed all to serve us.
