“For those others have all made offerings from their surplus wealth, but she, from her poverty, has offered her whole livelihood.” ~ Lk 21:4 (full readings)

Rich’s Reflections:   Today’s Gospel reminds me of the famous military quote, “All Gave Some, Some Gave All.”  The wealthy people put their offerings into the treasury from their surplus, but the poor widow offered everything she had.  Jesus asks us to love others as He loves us; freely, totally, faithfully, and fruitfully.  Christ gives His body freely:  “No one takes My life from Me, I lay it down of My own accord” (Jn 10:18).  The poor widow was not forced to donate her money but she gave it freely, just as your service to the unborn (time, money, talents) should come freely from your heart.  Jesus gives His body totally, without reservation, condition, or selfish calculations:  “He loved them to the last” (Jn 13:1).  There should be no exceptions to our defense of the unborn; abortion is never justified.  Jesus gives His body faithfully:  “I am with You always” (Mt 28:20).  We need to be ever faithful in our support of the unborn until abortion is abolished.  Jesus gives His body fruitfully:  “I came that they may have life” (Jn 10:10).  Life is a gift from God that we need to protect.
