31 Aug Strangers in Our Own Land (LK 4:24) by Amy Kosta
“Amen I say to you, no prophet is accepted in his own native place.” ~ Lk 4:24 (full readings)

Amy’s Reflections: In today’s gospel Jesus stands to preach in Nazareth where He speaks words of truth that amazed the people, but was rejected in His home town. I have heard and read this gospel numerous times and often thought how could these people be so blind? However, today I read these same words and realized how often I have experienced this same type of rejection myself. I would expect that anyone who is passionate about the Pro-life mission can relate. Have you ever received that eye-rolling when talking in a group setting about the sanctity of life? How many times have you been ignored by people when wearing your LIFE Runner gear? And I am not just talking about out on the streets…no …I am talking about in our own churches and even our families. Yes, even among fellow Christians, we are strangers in our own land!! It is among those who know the truth, but still refuse to accept it that we find our greatest challenge. It is a painful reality of taking on the battle against the culture of death that those so deeply rooted in that culture will ignore the truths to avoid controversy. We must accept this rejection as part of our pro-life ministry and continue to witness for life as Christ would do, with kindness and love. We must wear our LIFE Runner blue proudly, run/walk for life with conviction, and pray that the Lord will soften those hearts hardened by the culture of this world. All things are possible with God!
