Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. ~ Mt 7:7

Reflection: Esther’s story is one of courage and faith. Orphaned, and later raised in the Jewish faith by her uncle, Mordecai, Esther grew into a beautiful woman and “found favor” with King Xerxes. He chose her to become his wife. Following Haman’s evil plot to kill Mordecai, and all the Jews living in Persia, a decree was passed and Esther was faced with a difficult choice. She could remain silent about her Jewish heritage and do nothing while her people perished, or she could use her influence with the King to try and help save her people. Not knowing what to do, Esther asked Mordecai to gather the Jewish people to fast and pray for 3 days, as she herself would do. Esther then went before God in complete humility, asking for His guidance and revelation. Risking her own life, but knowing God was with her, Esther went before the King without being summoned. Haman’s plot was foiled and turned against him, and the Jewish people were saved. We know, as Pro-Lifers, that the power of fasting and prayer can not be underestimated in our efforts to make a difference in the lives of those coming face to face with the evil of abortion. We have seen God’s hand in the numbers of babies being saved from abortion, clinics being shut down, employees leaving the industry, and women and men spared, and healed, from the pain of abortion. Like Esther, we all have a decision to make. We can play it safe while the genocide of the unborn continues in our culture today. (But, like Mordecai warned Esther, at what cost?) Or, we can go before the LORD in humility, asking for His guidance and seeking His will for us in helping to end the abortion holocaust of our day. Using Esther as our example, let us do it in love, patience, kindness, humility, and peace. And may we all be a people called “for such a time as this.”
