11 Feb Temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Kgs 8:29) by Kevin McNicholas
“May your eyes watch night and day over this temple, the place where you have decreed you shall be honored; may you heed the prayer which I, your servant, offer in this place.” ~ 1 Kgs 8:29 (full readings)
Kevin’s Reflections: King Solomon prayed a very prophetic prayer here, as Jesus made reference several times in the Gospels to His own Body as a temple that would be destroyed and raised up in three days. There are many references elsewhere in the Bible and the Catechism to the human body as the temple of the Holy Spirit. God does decree that He shall be honored in each of our bodies, most importantly in our spirit, as our Faith drives everything we do as humans. The way we treat our bodies through what we eat and drink also comes to mind (I need to fast from candy more than just during Lent!). Maybe what we put into our minds can bring honor to God as well, specifically in terms of music, movies, media, etc. Abortion, damaging one temple, and destroying another, brings dishonor to God. The slogan, used by many pro-abortion groups, “my child, my choice” is a great contradiction to what we know as Christians to be true, that each child is God’s choice. I have always been pro-life, but this is a reality that I never understood more fully than when after 8 years of marriage, God has chosen to bless us with two children in two years. They are God’s choice, in that they were (and will be) born when God wanted them to be born, not when we wanted them to. They will have the lives that God wants them to have because of this, and meet the people they are supposed to meet, and experience what God wants them to experience because He is in control. I pray every day that our children will become the people God wants them to be. I am going to expand that prayer today: that all children become who God wants them to be, and if they don’t see the example through their own parents, then we are that example of holiness. What else is life about other than living Faith in God?

He and his wife Laura have a 16 month old miracle named Elliana (“the Lord Answers”) to love, and a son on the way! They have been blessed during the 7 years of their marriage to travel to Catholic pilgrimage sites worldwide.
