19 Mar The Example of St. Joseph (Mt 1:20, 24) by Jacob Laugeman
“‘Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary your wife into your home.’ When Joseph awoke, he did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took his wife into his home.” ~ Mt 1:20, 24 (full readings)
Jacob’s Reflections: When something happens that does not make sense to us, it can be easy to say, “Why God? I just do not see any purpose in this.” It can be something that happens to us or something that happens to someone we know. The first thing we must do is have faith in God and know that His plan is beyond our understanding and for the best. If we do this, He makes things work out. Second, we must support anyone we know who could use a friend or a kind word. St. Joseph did both of these things very well and is a great example for us. When the angel Gabriel appeared to Joseph, he had faith and did as he was told. He then supported Mary throughout her pregnancy and beyond. If we live by Joesph’s example, we will be helping those we care for get into heaven and our faith will be rewarded.
