Matt’s Reflections: The frustrations we feel as God’s adopted sons and daughters are understandable. The sadness we feel for our brothers and sisters who walk in darkness is real. The disappointment and anger we feel as our soldiers battle ever-increasing darkness in our world is deep. But today’s readings teach us of the Father’s mercy and goodness. In 1 Thes 2:11-12, St. Paul states, “As you know, we treated each one of you as a father treats his children, exhorting and encouraging you and insisting that you conduct yourselves as worthy of the God who calls you into his kingdom and glory.” As sinners, let us remember how blessed we are to be called. Let us persevere and be strengthened by the Spirit of compassion. Only God Himself is the Judge. The Responsorial Psalm, “You have searched me and you know me,” says it all. Even as Jesus’ words in Matthew’s Gospel ignite a fire within us against worldly hypocrisy, only Christ Himself can throw the first stone. All in Christ for Pro-Life! God’s peace to all!
