21 Jul The Fowler’s Snare (Ps 124:7) by Bridget VanMeans
We escaped with our lives like a bird from the fowler’s snare; the snare was broken, and we escaped. ~ Ps 124:7

Reflection: How often do we really consider that if it weren’t for the grace of God and Christ’s work on the cross, our souls would’ve been hopelessly doomed. Without our Redeemer, there would’ve been no hope for us…none at all. And yet, each of us in the family of faith has been rescued “from the fowler’s snare.” Rescued from a life of hopelessness, listlessness, purposelessness, foolishness, selfishness, the list goes on and on. It’s pretty easy to forget that I was hopelessly snared and God broke the snare! He set me free – my hope was in the name of the Lord. This is true for each of us. If each of us has experienced such a spectacular rescue from destruction, why shouldn’t we expect that same spectacle of power and love to be active on behalf of the unborn? The scourge of abortion may be supported by the laws of the land, but it is not supported by the laws of our God, the creator of heaven and earth. We must embrace a sense of immediacy and expectancy that God is doing something unprecedented in our nation to bring abortion to an end…not in a generation, or a decade, but now. This sense of the “now” must dramatically alter the way we speak, pray and behave in our life saving mission. We must believe that as surely as we were doomed and God rescued us, so shall He rescue every little one “doomed” by the callousness and disdain of our culture.

Challenge: Do your prayers line up with the kinds of things we see Jesus do in the Gospels? He is an outrageously generous, formidably powerful, unfathomably loving Savior…are your petitions in keeping with His extraordinary nature? If you aren’t asking for what seems to be the impossible on a regular basis you need to pray bigger!
