“The Lord is faithful in all His words.” ~ Ps 145:13 (full readings)
.
Kathryn’s Reflections: We probably disappoint ourselves and one another so often that it is hard to believe that anyone can really be counted on to be faithful in all his words. But then it’s not just anyone who willingly walks the way of the cross, submits himself to scourging and ridicule, carrying his cross through death on a tree, only to rise again, all out of love for you. “The Lord is faithful in all his words.” And when we surrender our lives to Him, we are united to the most powerful love, the strength that no evil can suppress or conquer. “The Lord is faithful in all his words.” And if we live as though we truly believe this, we can change the world. We can work 24 hours a day but without the joy of trust in eternal life, without knowing the love of a merciful God, we are limited, our impact is finite, we keep ourselves from our fullest, deepest potential – we keep ourselves from living the will of God. “The Lord is faithful in all his words.” Meditating on the empty tomb, we remember. Gazing at our Lord’s presence, even today, in all the tabernacles of the world, we are drawn deeper in. “All people have a right to know Jesus Christ and his Gospel. And Christians, all Christians – priests, religious and lay faithful – have a corresponding duty to proclaim the Good News,” the Holy Father said in Rome this past Sunday. Do we know Jesus Christ and his Gospel? Because it is only in the daily care and feeding of our own souls – remembering and reaffirming and reconsecrating ourselves to the knowledge that the Lord is faithful in all his words – that we can live his words, the Gospel truth. “Let all your works give you thanks, O LORD, and let your faithful ones bless you. Let them discourse of the glory of your Kingdom and speak of your might.” Let them not only know we are Christians by our love but be unmistakably drawn to the source of our hope and joy and strength. Let us encourage one another with our lives.
