“All this you were allowed to see that you might know the LORD is God and there is no other.” ~ (Dt 4:35) (full readings)

Barb’s Reflections:   Today’s readings are a strong reminder to all that choosing to follow our Lord has great rewards.  God poured forth many blessings on the Israelites and, in today’s first reading, Moses tells them they must know now that the LORD is God in the heavens above and on earth below, and there is no other.  Our choice today is the same as Moses presented to the people of Israel resulting in similar consequences.  Will we love the Lord and keep His commandments, or will we choose to serve “other gods”?  What will it be?  We live in a world that tries to convince us that happiness is obtained through possessions and selfishness.  “What’s in it for me?”  As followers of Christ, we know better and Matthew’s Gospel gets us back on track by reminding us “whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.”  Life is full of choices that can either lead us to or away from Him, resulting in God’s mercy or wrath.  Choose wisely!
