“Fear not! Stand your ground, and you will see the victory the LORD will win for you today…The LORD himself will fight for you; you have only to keep still.” ~ Ex 14:13-14 (full readings)

Chris’ Reflections:  As the children of Israel fled Egypt, from slavery under Pharaoh to freedom in the Promised Land, they grumbled against God and Moses: “Far better for us to be the slaves of the Egyptians than to die in the desert” (Ex 14:12).  How often do we as Christians complain about how hard life is, about how hard it is to live the life of a good Christian in today’s world?  For some the “demands” of Christianity appear to be a form of “slavery” in and of itself.  However, we know that the laws God has written on our hearts, hard as they may seem at times, are a pattern for our true happiness in this life and the next.  To do God’s will is freedom.  Let us not be enslaved by the pressures of the world or entrapped by the hatred of those who do not agree with us on the sanctity of all human life, born and unborn.  Rather, let us respond to everyone with love, and in doing so, experience God’s freedom and bear witness to His saving power.

Faith Challenge:   Spend a moment today thinking and praying about how God might be calling you, like Moses, to participate in freeing a friend or loved one from any form of slavery (e.g., addictions, grudges, lies, despair) he or she may be experiencing, and help bring him or her closer to Christ’s love and victory.
