“To do your will, O my God, is my delight, And your law is within my heart!” ~ Psalm 40 (full readings)

Kathryn’s Reflection: Hebrews tells us today that our Lord is: Holy. Innocent. Undefiled. Higher than the heavens. Jesus Christ is God. He walked our walk. But he did it without sin. We look around today and may see a dark fog. A changing culture. One mired in 40 years of legal abortion. One that has institutionalized and even mandated some of its worst habits in a poisonous misread of what exactly freedom is. One that has lost its way. We must redirect. And we do it by going to God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. We do this by being transformed by the sacraments, by living sacramentally, by joining the dance of the Trinity, wanting to do nothing without God. By saying “Here am I, Lord; I come to do your will” as today’s psalm, 40, guides us and meaning it. By announcing his justice and working to make it manifest. In the Gospel passage from Mark today, Jesus cures the sick. We need healing. And with Him and in Him, we might just help heal our brothers and sisters, too, friends and strangers, both. Abortion is an open, gaping wound in the heart and soul of our nation. Laws are part of the solution, but it’s the peace and healing of the divine consolation and graces of the Sacraments that will see us through building a culture of love, one where people see love and want love, where they know love and insist on love. We do that by loving. As we mark the anniversary of the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision this week, we must walk with love. Knowing and loving and sharing Christ’s love. It’s the cure. He’s the cure.
