“Thus says the LORD: Cursed is the man who trusts in human beings, who seeks his strength in flesh, whose heart turns away from the Lord. Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, whose hope is the LORD.” ~ Jer 17:5,7 (full readings)

Ed’s Reflections: Each of us is asked to trust in faith in the Lord Jesus. By this faith, shown in the fruits of our life through God’s grace and because of His “Word” made flesh, we have the opportunity to be made pure, clean and whole in this Life and in our eternal Life that is to come. Jesus gives the examples of the rich man who had everything that the world could offer and of the poor man Lazarus who had nothing from this world but pain and suffering, but Lazarus placed his hope and trust in the Lord and gained eternal life. Jesus tells us that blessed are they that place their hope and trust in the God. The Gift of Life that we are given is by God’s love, He gives us the free will to return the gift of love to others, and ultimately to return that love to Him. Those who decide to lock their hearts from the inside turn away from God and become, like the rich man, part of the greatest tragedy of human existence, which is the failure to become a Saint and the loss of Heaven. We must always stand up for the gift up Life and be heard as we recognize in love God’s presence in all human life, especially for those who have no voice.
