19 Oct Trust in God (Lk 12:19) by Dr. Rich Reich
“Then I will say to myself: You have blessings in reserve for years to come. Relax!” ~ Lk 12:19 (full readings)
Rich’s Reflections: I don’t like to gamble, but imagine if you won the lottery and received a million dollars. What would you do? Today’s Gospel tells the parable about the rich farmer who stores up treasure for himself but is not rich in what matters to God. God calls him a fool. God knows we tend to rely on our own provision rather than His fathering. God has promised to always provide all that we need; however, God knows how weak we are. He knows if we did win the lottery, we would likely relax and not think to turn to Him. We would be forgetting God for months instead of growing in a constant, loving, trusting relationship with Him. That is why Jesus teaches us to only pray for what we need today. Those who find themselves with an “unplanned” pregnancy need to trust in God that He will provide for them. Help those who are considering an abortion find the help that they need and renew their faith in God.
