16 Jul Truth Hurts, But Abortion Kills (Matthew 10:35-36) by Rich Reich
Welcome God now with this LIFE Group Devotion (FB), provided by LIFE Runners (FB). Leaders. Guest Authors.
“For I have come to set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; and one’s enemies will be those of his household.” ~ Matthew 10:35-36 (full readings)
Rich’s Reflections: In today’s Scripture it appears that Jesus plans to destroy the entire family. He puts a man at odds with his father and a daughter against her mother. This may seem shocking coming from the Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:5), but Jesus’ mission is to spread division, not peace. Jesus does not want us to be passive and avoid conflict, but He wants us to take up our crosses and follow Him. This might even mean that we get in an argument with our family, or that we no longer have a relationship with somebody who we thought was a good friend. We need to talk about the horrible truth of abortion with others. The truth does not threaten to destroy our families, but abortion does. Statistics show that a majority of women who abort break up with their partner soon after. One study showed that six years after their abortion, only 22% were married, and 67% remained single (from the book Consistently Opposing Killing). Lord, give me the courage to speak out against abortion and not be afraid of conflict. Amen.
