Reflection:  Who is our “neighbor”?  As the discussion between the scholar and Jesus took place, that really became the main question.  It is still a question we struggle with today.  My neighbor can’t be the person who just cut me off on the way to work?  Can’t be the person who almost runs you over while you are out running?  Can’t be the person that is driving into the abortion facility and hollering at you to “get a life”?  Would be easy to say they are not our neighbors, but we must look for the path the Samaritan would have taken.  We need to recognize that these people (only God knows what’s going on in their lives) need our help in prayers and forgiveness.  Further in the parable, Jesus describes the actions of the robbers “they stripped and beat him and went off leaving him half-dead.”  This description fits today exactly with what the abortion industry does to the family and the dignity of human life.  The families contemplating and/or impacted by abortion and the abortion workers are our neighbors who are most in need.  The Samaritan realized to do the right thing, he had to step away from his comfort and reach out to tend to the victim.  We too (like the Samaritan) must step out and be seen in order to help those stripped and beaten by the abortion industry, to truly love our neighbor.
.
Challenge:  Dedicate some time praying in front of an abortion facility.  Be seen, let your neighbor know that you care for them; offer them an alternative, hope, and prayers.
