27 Dec What Will You Run For? (Jn 20:1-4) by Jeff Grabosky
Welcome God now with this LIFE Group Devotion (FB), provided by LIFE Runners (FB). Leaders. Guest Authors.

“On the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene ran and went to Simon Peter and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and told them, “They have taken the Lord from the tomb, and we do not know where they put him.” So Peter and the other disciple went out and came to the tomb. They both ran, but the other disciple ran faster than Peter and arrived at the tomb first.” ~ Jn 20:1-4 (full readings)

Jeff’s Reflections: I have always loved this reading because of the mental imagery I experience when reading it. Can you imagine how Mary Magdalene felt when she realized Jesus was not in the tomb and she did not know where he was? She had to tell someone immediately, so she literally ran to Peter and John to do so. Can you imagine how they felt when they heard this news? Peter and John ran to the tomb because it could not wait and they needed to get there as quickly as possible. There was definitely a sense of urgency to the matter. Let us ask ourselves what we run for. As LIFE Runners the physical running and walking is one thing. What we are truly doing is spreading the gospel that every life is precious from conception until natural death. This is not a message that can wait to be delivered. The matter is of the utmost urgency and we need to be involved. Prayer is a powerful tool, as is standing up for life in our circle of friends and witnessing to the truth. Wearing a LIFE Runners shirt in a race, on a training run, or as part of the upcoming A-Cross the Country Relay is a great way to deliver this message. Is it important enough for us to attend to without delay? Let us, like those in the reading today, take action immediately. If it is important enough, we can make time for it. LIFE is that important. It is worth running for.
* Jeff Grabosky ran A-Cross America from Jan to May 2011 to encourage prayer and Pro-Life: Running With God Across America book. LIFE Runners co-founder Pat Castle met Jeff along that faith journey (daily bread story).

I am just starting to read Mr. Grabosky’s book as I received it as a Christmas present. I pray also for his continued lifelong run with God, and that my own may continue into my more senior years as a beacon for others as they get older, and for the unborn that they might have their lives saved initially.
