What’s Wrong with Being Compared to Sheep? They’re Cute and Useful… (Mk 6:34) by Paul Westendorf

06 Jan What’s Wrong with Being Compared to Sheep? They’re Cute and Useful… (Mk 6:34) by Paul Westendorf

“When Jesus saw the vast crow, his heart was moved with pity for them, for they were like sheep without a shepherd.”
~ Mk 6:34 (full readings)
Paul’s Reflections:  Having grown up on a farm, I can testify that sheep are not the brightest animals.  There are documented cases of the herd following one another into dangerous terrain and getting themselves killed.  Mankind has demonstrated over and over that same dangerous herd mentality.  Why?  Because we have difficulty telling good from bad and we have this ability to justify anything.  Example.  God loves us right?  God makes good things right?  Since God loves us, He wants good things for us right?  God made that apple tree and wants us to have a bite of the apple.  Did you bite?  The abortion industry uses that “justification” process and “herd mentality” on us today.  “We need to control overpopulation, it’s a mass of tissue, abortions are rare and safe, etc …”  How do we avoid and help others to avoid the pitfalls?  Back to Mark “…and he began to teach them many things.”  We have Jesus everyday ready to shephard us, to teach us via His living word in the Bible.  “Beloved, let us love one another, because love is of God;” (1 Jn 4: 7-10).  Love and compassion is how we can reunite with the flock that has and or is entangled in the lies of  abortions.  Sharing the knowledge of God’s word and of the facts of abortion (https://www.liferunners.org/represent/) to help others avoid the “herd” fatality.  These things are how we can return the value of God’s gift of human life back to where God intended it to be.  With all the political influence and money of the abortion industry at times it can seem like this is an impossible task.  But then again, Jesus fed 5000 with five loaves and two fish.
