29 Jan Why We Run (Heb 6:11) by Chris Talley
“Our great desire is that you will keep on loving others as long as life lasts, in order to make certain that what you hope for will come true.” ~ Heb 6:11 (full readings)

Chris’ Reflections: We run as a prayer, to build endurance, for awareness, for charity, and to end Abortion. Something usually inspires me for a devotion, I can think of nothing more inspirational than the Pro Life Half marathon. From the beginning of the race to see all the LIFE Runner blue, as well as the other pro lifers. Along the run there are such a variety of runners. Fast young men with a look of determination on their faces. Then there are the others who just want to be a part of something amazing. LIFE Runner of the Year recipient, Ed Heigl, battles illness, but carried his flag proudly and ran. I will never forget watching Sara Beaner come towards the finish line. She had apparently injured something around mile 5. I’m told she was offered a ride back, but declined and walked to the finish. How easy it would have been to take that ride, but she finished her race. I have participated in several races over the years, and typically I’m the only LIFE Runner. It was so inspiring to run and see so many others and be cheered on along the way. Perhaps the most inspirational was when the young women from Chicago finished and began to cry. I didn’t know why and later I learned she had an abortion. I pray it was healing for her to join us and take part in our event. God will use her in some way to help other women who are struggling with the decision to abort. “For God has not given us a spirit of fear; but of power, love and sound judgment” (2 Tim 1:7). So when I think of our creed why we run, I also think of this verse. Proud to be your teammates and can’t wait to see what God has planned for us in 2015.
