25 Jun Wolves in Sheep’s Clothing (Mt 7:15-20) by Alice Chapman
“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but underneath are ravenous wolves.
By their fruits you will know them.” ~ Mt 7:15-20 (full readings)

Alice’s Reflections: Planned Parenthood’s tag line is “Care. No Matter What.” They advertise that they help women decide among their options when faced with an unexpected pregnancy: abortion, adoption, or parenting (in that order). They present themselves as a professional, caring organization whose staff are available to answer questions, provide support, and help women find the services they need. But what they actually do is prey on young girls and women who are scared, alone, and without any visible means of emotional support. They are in the business of performing abortions; consequently, they lead these women to conclude that their only option is to abort. They specifically warn visitors to their website to avoid crisis pregnancy centers because they are “fake clinics” who don’t give women complete information and attempt to scare them into not having abortions. This is the ultimate irony because it is exactly the tactic they themselves use to encourage women to abort. The fruits of Planned Parenthood’s efforts are more than 300,000 abortions every year – 1 every 94 seconds. They are a modern day wolf in sheep’s clothing. Lest we get discouraged, today’s gospel reading reminds us that a good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a rotten tree bear good fruit. Every tree that doesn’t bear good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire. There is only one way this fight for life can end.

Faith Quote: “A tree is known by its fruit; a man by his deeds. A good deed is never lost; he who sows courtesy reaps friendship, and he who plants kindness gathers love.” ~ St. Basil
