“For now the Lord has spoken who formed me as his servant from the womb.” ~ Is 49:5 (full readings)

Rich’s Reflections: Today the Church celebrates a feast which proclaims the importance of life in the womb through birth. In our abortion-minded and contraceptive culture of death, we need constant reminders of God’s great plans for all life, including life before birth. The culture of death proclaims that the womb is a tomb; if life starts there, kill it. The culture of life emphasizes the womb is a place for God to anoint His servants (Is 49:5). The culture of death preaches that those who prevent life from starting in the womb through contraception are blessed and successful. Those like Mary, who had what the world calls “crisis pregnancies,” bring life and joy to others (Lk 1:44) and are blessed by God. God did not intend for the womb to be a tomb for the unborn. God’s plan for the womb was to be a place of creation where He has blessed us to be co-creators.
