Worker or Disciple (Lk 10:39)

26 Jul Worker or Disciple (Lk 10:39)

mary-marthaShe had a sister named Mary who sat beside the Lord at his feet listening to him speak. ~ Lk 10:39
..
Reflection:   I can really relate to Martha in the Gospel today, because of my really strong work ethic.  Sometimes I find myself so focused at the task at hand that I don’t take the time to relate to others in my work environment.  Martha complains to the Lord that Mary is not helping her with the tasks and Jesus corrects her stating that her sister “Mary has chosen the better part and it will not be taken from her.” (Lk 10:42)  Mary has chosen to be a disciple of Jesus by sitting at His feet and not merely a worker like Martha.  A worker can feel anxious and worried like Martha, because they are in charge of their own life and work.  Whereas, a disciple is at rest like Mary, for Jesus’ yoke is easy and His burden light (Mt 11:30).  The difference between being a worker and a disciple of Christ can be merely a matter of perspective and attitude.  A person who works for the Lord, but isn’t His disciple prays for God’s help, while a disciple prays to help God.  As LIFE Runners we have great passion for protecting the unborn, but we can become burdened by the details of our own work and agenda if we do not place God first.  As disciples of Jesus we need to pray how we can help God and not how God can help us.
.
Challenge:  Be a disciple and not a worker of the Lord.  Pray to God how you can help Him protect the unborn.
